Phnom penh: The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has released an updated report on the number of factories, enterprises, and establishments registered in the first six months of 2025.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the number of enterprises and establishments registered with the ministry increased from 44,798 at the end of 2024 to 45,656 as of mid-2025, marking an increase of 858.
The report highlights growth in both the garment and non-garment sectors. The number of factories and enterprises in the garment sector rose by 116, from 1,566 at the end of 2024 to 1,682 by the end of June 2025. Similarly, the number of factories and enterprises in the non-garment sector climbed to 43,974 during the first half of this year, up by 742 from 43,232 at the end of 2024.
The garment, footwear, and travel goods industry remains Cambodia's largest source of foreign exchange. The sector employs nearly one million workers, with a significant number being women. Cambodia exported garment, footwear, and travel goods worth US$7.38 billion in the first half of 2025, up 22 percent from US$6.02 billion during the same period in 2024, according to a report from the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia.
Additionally, the Kingdom imported US$3.48 billion worth of raw materials for the garment sector, reflecting an increase of 21.43 percent year-on-year from US$3.1 billion in the first half of 2024.
