(Olympics) Amy Yang sits 7 back through 36 holes in women’s golf

Amy Yang sat seven strokes off the lead through the second round of the women's golf tournament of the Paris Olympics on Thursday. Yang, an LPGA veteran who won her maiden major title in June, shot a one-under 71 with four birdies, one bogey and one double bogey at the par-72 Le Golf National in Guyancourt, south of Paris. At one-under overall, Yang is tied for 14th with four others. Yang had also been seven strokes back after the opening round, with the French golfer Celine Boutier setting the pace with a 65. With Boutier struggling to a round of 76 on Thursday, Morgane Metraux of Switzerland seized the lead at eight-under with a round of 66. She made two eagles on the front nine. Yin Ruoning of China is one back of Metraux thanks to a bogey-free round of 65, which was also the low round of the day. Lydia Ko, a South Korean-born Kiwi, is lurking at five-under after shooting 67 on Thursday. Ko is the only golfer, male or female, to have won a medal at each of the past two Olympics. She won silver at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and added bronze five years later in Tokyo. Two other South Korean players, Ko Jin-young and Kim Hyo-joo, are tied for 26th at two-over. Ko, former world No. 1, shot her second straight 73 with two birdies, one bogey and one double bogey. Kim, a six-time LPGA winner, followed her opening 76 with a 70 on Thursday, thanks to three birdies against one bogey. Only two players broke 70 on Wednesday but eight players did so on Thursday.
