SUNGAI PETANI, More than 3,000 people attended the Komuniti @Stats Programme with the Mukim Merbok community at the Al-Busyra Mosque near here, yesterday.
The programme, organised by the Kedah Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), in collaboration with the Al-Busyra Mosque, was held in conjunction with National Statistics Day (HSN), which is celebrated on Oct 20 every year.
The theme for this year's National Statistics Day celebration is "Statistik Nadi Kehidupan".
The Kedah DOSM, in a statement today, said the programme, which was officiated by Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin, was aimed at promoting the agricultural census, which will be conducted in 2024.
The programme, according to the statement, also seeks to increase the statistical literacy of the local community and provide a clearer picture of DOSM's function as a leading agency in supplying the country's official statistics.
Further information about the agricultural census can be obtained at www.myagricensus.gov.my.
At the event, DOSM also launched OpenDOSM NextGen, a platform that provides data catalogues and visualisations to facilitate the analysis of various data by users.
The open-source data exchange platform can be accessed through https://open.dosm.gov.my.
The one-day programme began with a fun run, followed by a knowledge-sharing session by the Kedah Agriculture Department and Indah Water Konsortium (IWK), before the Merbok Berselawat event was held in the evening.
There were also booths set up by government agencies and the private sector, a food bazaar, the Rahmah Sales Programme, a treasure hunt and a colouring contest.
Meanwhile, the statement said that various activities and programmes have been lined up by the Kedah DOSM in conjunction with this year's HSN celebrations.
The programmes include hiking at Darul Aman Hill; the Kedah DOSM exhibitions at the lobby of Wisma Persekutuan Anak Bukit, UTC Sungai Petani and the Tanjung Lembung Complex; futsal and netball tournaments; and the Literasi Statistik programme at the School of Quantitative Sciences, Universiti Utara Malaysia.
