PANTOMIME DEPICTING BERNAMA CAMERAMAN’S DEATH IN MOGADISHU RESONATES WITH MINISTRY STAFF

A pantomime depicting the trials and tribulations of a media practitioner reporting on accurate and factual news resonated well with the audience at the monthly Communications and Digital Ministry (KKD) gathering today.

The performance by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) was actually based on the true story of one of its staff who was killed while on duty abroad.

The 10-minute pantomime told the life story of Bernama TV cameraman Noramfaizul Mohd Nor and his untimely death from a stray bullet while covering the Kelab Putera 1Malaysia humanitarian mission in Mogadishu, Somalia on Sept 2, 2011.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil left a post on Facebook about the pantomime, stating, “It’s sad, this isn’t fiction, it’s a true story. That’s the price of news. May he be placed among the faithful.”
