KUCHING, Rain or shine, wheelchair-bound Chow Mei Hsia never misses her table tennis training. Her discipline and hard work paid dividends today when she clinched the women's singles wheelchair table tennis Open gold medal at the 2024 Malaysia Para Games (Para SUKMA) at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (China) Chung Hua No. 3 here. The 45-year-old shared that she would travel to training on her three-wheeled motorcycle to attend training daily and even fell ill due to being drenched during heavy downpours. But she's glad everything has worked out well and she managed to mark her final Para SUKMA outing with a gold medal. "I used to fall sick ill because I would travel in extreme heat and also get wet in heavy rain riding my three-wheeled motorcycle to training. So, this gold medal has been worth all the sacrifices,' she told Bernama today after dispatching three opponents in the knockout rounds for the gold medal. Mei Hsia slogged to defeat Sabah's Rahimah Andungai 13-11, 11-6, 6-11, 2-11, 11-3 before disposing of Perak's Siti Nur Amirah Hamizul 11-9, 13-11, 11-6. Sarawakian Mei Hsia then brushed aside Nurul Fatihah Jamaludin, also of Perak, 11-7, 11-2, 11-5 to seal the gold medal. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
