PM Cheers Labour Day, Outlines Worker-Centred Vision for Sustainable and Resilient Growth

Phnom Penh: The Cambodian Prime Minister marks the 139th International Labour Day, outlining the government's vision to secure decent jobs for his fellow citizens and to achieve sustainable and resilient growth, which is well in line with the theme of the international day this year.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet brought to light the vision in a recent open letter to join Cambodian workers cheering the international day which falls on May 1. The Royal Government envisions a viable high-income Cambodian society with a strong and resilient economy and with educated citizens possessing at least one skill in life and enjoying their living with dignity and happiness and being supported by an equitable and equal social security net, wrote the Prime Minister.

He continued describing another additional aspect of the vision, which is Cambodia with a harmonious, resilient, and inclusive physical environment and nature, well balancing development and natural resource conservation.

In light of the interconnected priorities under the vision, Cambodia had 45,225 operational enterprise establishments and secured jobs for 1,846,837 workers as of the first quarter of 2025, added Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet. In the first quarter, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) registered 172 investment projects with a total US$2.4 billion investment capital and can create roughly 120,000 additional jobs.

Meanwhile, the government continued to promote working conditions, labour rights, freedom of labour unions, and social security and other benefits for all Cambodian workers and to effectively and fairly address labour disputes.

To enjoy the fruits toward the realisation of the vision, the Prime Minister also recognised the winners of the One Enterprise as One Peaceful Community Award while observing the international day. He thanked the owners of manufacturing enterprises and other entities and expressed his appreciation of all workers as well as relevant institutions and partners for their contribution to the milestones and achievements so far.
