Poipet International Border Gate Operating Normally Amid Tightened Produce Import Restrictions

Poipet: Activities at the Poipet International Border Gate in Banteay Meanchey province proceeded smoothly on Thursday morning, with regular cross-border movement of citizens and uninterrupted transport of goods.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Cambodian authorities have strictly reinforced a ban on the import of vegetables and fruits from Thailand. Since the gate opened at 8:00 a.m. for the Thai side and 9:00 a.m. for the Cambodian side, a steady flow of both Cambodian nationals and foreign travelers has been observed crossing the border. Authorities conducted thorough document inspections, and no significant delays or disruptions were reported.

Traders transporting goods using carts and trolleys also carried on with their business as usual. A variety of goods moved briskly across the border to meet market demands and support local livelihoods. Despite the overall smooth operations, border officials are maintaining a firm stance on prohibiting the import of all types of vegetables and fruits from Thailand. The restriction is part of the Royal Government of Cambodia's measures aimed at protecting the quality and safety of domestic agricultural products and ensuring public health.

Brigadier General Y Chamroeun, Chief of the Poipet International Border Police Post, confirmed the situation, stating, "This morning, the movement of people and goods at the Poipet International Gate remains normal. Vendors using carts or trolleys can still carry out their trade activities without obstruction. However, we are strictly enforcing the ban on the import of fruits and vegetables into Cambodia. This is a Royal Government directive intended to safeguard the interests of local farmers and ensure food safety for our citizens. We will continue implementing this measure with the utmost seriousness."

In summary, the scene at the Poipet International Border Gate today reflects a bustling yet orderly environment, with authorities playing a crucial role in maintaining security, enforcing regulations, and supporting national agricultural interests through tightened import controls.
