Kim Wan-sup, the environment minister nominee, has been known for his expertise in environment-related budget planning while serving in the finance ministry's key positions, most recently the second vice finance minister, for over 30 years. Kim, a native of Wonju, Gangwon Province, entered government service in 1992 after graduating from Korea University. As an economic bureaucrat, he built his career primarily working in the ministry's budget office. Kim gained experience in environment policymaking while working in the ministry's environment budget divisions. He was also involved in the introduction of the nation's first compressed natural gas buses. As the head of the ministry's budget office, Kim oversaw the Yoon Suk Yeol government's first-year budget preparation.
