PUBLIC TAKES ADVANTAGE OF FREE TICKETS TO VISIT NSC

The public is taking advantage of the free tickets to the National Science Centre (NSC), here, this weekend in conjunction with the 2023 Xporia Science being held for three days starting yesterday.

A Bernama survey found that the school holiday, which started yesterday, was also a factor for the large crowd, with many parents taking the opportunity to spend time with their children at the Xporia Science programme.

A visitor from Kulai, Johor, Hasmae Lizati Ghazali, 36, said NSC provided a suitable location to expose her three children to Science subjects.

“There are various interesting activities, such as laboratory activities and some other scientific phenomenon activities, which indirectly test their minds and intellectuals,” she told Bernama.

Teacher Lim Suk Wen, 38, of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Chio Min ‘A’, Kulim, Kedah, who is accompanying 38 students from the school on a visit to the centre, hoped that the visit could help to improve her students’ skills in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI).

“I found that there are various science activities that can be explored, which my students have never experienced, such as the experience of facing an earthquake. This is an experience they cannot get in their textbooks,” she said.

A student of Sekolah Kebangsaan Air Putih, in Kuantan Pahang, Naurah Sofia Mohd Asri, 11, said she was very excited when first told by her parents that the family was going to visit NSC.

‘I’m interested in STI… I learned a lot during my visit here (NSC), for example about windmills and the concept of renewable energy which is very important in life,” she said.

A civil servant from Kluang, Johor, Nuraqilah Anis Safiee, 25, said NSC functions as a storehouse of knowledge on STIs which is presented in an interactive and self-exploratory manner.

“I was so excited and tried every activity and game available at the centre, especially those related to virtual reality technology.

‘They gave me a new and interesting experience,” she added.

Yesterday, NSC director Mohammad Fuad Rahman was reported to have said that the centre aims to attract 40,000 visitors to the 2023 Xporia Science being held here and at NSC Northern Region in Alor Setar, Kedah.

More than 40 science-themed activities are on offer to give the community an exciting hands-on family experience in the world of science at the centre, in conjunction with the school holidays.

The 2023 Xporia Science known as ‘PSN SciFest’ is NSC’s annual highlight held by the two science centres.
