SEOUL, The broadcasting regulator said Wednesday it has renewed licenses for three TV channels for another four years. Under the renewal of licenses, Yonhap News TV and YTN are now eligible to operate until March 31, 2028, and Channel A until April 21 of the same year, according to the Korea Communications Commission (KCC). The KCC said all three channels qualified in major assessment criteria and have worked to carry out conditions the watchdog gave in 2020 for reapproval of their operations. "We have gone through a strict process and deep discussion this time as the role of cable and TV news channels is important in setting social agendas and creating public opinion even though the media environment has been evolving," Kim Hong-il, head of the KCC, said in a statement.
