SEOUL, South Korea's industry ministry said Tuesday it has discussed ways to expand cooperation in the supply chain for key minerals, such as lithium and copper, with Chile. Second Vice Industry Minister Choi Nam-ho met with Chilean Mining Minister Aurora Williams in Seoul for a business roundtable to share the latest information in the sector, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said. The roundtable came in line with efforts to expand bilateral cooperation in the private sector after Santiago unveiled its plan to develop its lithium reserves in April last year. South Korea has been seeking to forge closer ties with Chile, as Seoul depends heavily on imports for minerals vital to cutting-edge industries. Chile also has been making efforts to diversify its export portfolio, making South Korea a key partner in the initiative. During the event, South Korean companies, including Ecopro Innovation Co., SK Enmove Co., Korea Zinc Inc., LX International Corp., POSCO Holdings and Hyundai Motor Co., shared their challenges in entering the market, while the Chilean government provided feedback. In May, the two countries also hosted a meeting in Santiago to discuss ways to expand ties in resources. "Following the meeting in May, the business roundtable has helped develop bilateral cooperation in the supply chain for key minerals to another level," Choi said in a statement.
