Samdech Khuon Sudary Departs for Malaysia to Attend 46th AIPA General Assembly

Phnom penh: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, departed Phnom Penh this morning for Malaysia to participate in the 46th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-46).

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the visit is made at the invitation of Honorable Tan Sri Dato' (Dr.) Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia and President of AIPA-46. The AIPA-46, to be held in Kuala Lumpur from September 17 to 21 under the theme 'Parliament at the Forefront for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable ASEAN,' will highlight the shared vision of ASEAN parliaments to foster prosperity, inclusiveness, and resilience across the ASEAN Community.

During the session, Samdech Khuon Sudary will take part in key meetings, including the Executive Committee, which sets the agenda and procedures of the Assembly, and the discussion and approval of major tasks of the AIPA Secretariat. She will also deliver a keynote address at the 2nd WAIPA Women Political Leaders Forum and make an intervention during the 1st Plenary Session of the General Assembly, among other engagements.

In addition, Samdech Khuon Sudary is scheduled to hold working meetings with parliamentary leaders from AIPA member states, observer parliaments, and development partners, thereby advancing Cambodia's parliamentary diplomacy and strengthening ties of friendship and cooperation with the international community in the interests of the people.

Meanwhile, members of the Cambodian delegation will join various AIPA Committee meetings, such as the Meeting of Women Parliamentarians of AIPA (WAIPA), the Committee on Political Matters, the Committee on Economic Matters, the Committee on Social Matters, the Committee on Organizational Matters, and the Meeting of Young Parliamentarians of AIPA (YPA). They will also engage in dialogues with about 18 AIPA Observer Parliaments.

As ASEAN's parliamentary forum, AIPA convenes its annual General Assembly to promote dialogue, cooperation, and peaceful solutions, in support of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, which aspires to sustainable, inclusive, prosperous, and people-centered development.

The participation of Cambodia's high-level parliamentary delegation in the AIPA-46 not only reinforces parliamentary mechanisms and the principles of multilateralism but also serves as a platform to broaden bilateral and multilateral cooperation with other countries and development partners. This will bring tangible benefits in areas such as economy, trade, society, culture, tourism, and especially people-to-people connectivity at both regional and global levels.
