Samdech Khuon Sudary, Russian State Duma Deputy Chairman Reaffirm Friendship and Cooperation at AIPA-46

Kuala lumpur: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, held a meeting with Hon. Kara-ool Shalban, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly in Malaysia.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Khuon Sudary reaffirmed the enduring friendship between Cambodia and Russia, expressing gratitude for the support that dates back to the Soviet Union's assistance in Cambodia's reconstruction after the Pol Pot regime. She highlighted the upcoming 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026, suggesting the strengthening of cooperation in areas such as investment, trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges. She also proposed joint events to celebrate shared achievements and enhance bilateral relations.

Hon. Kara-ool Shalban praised the long-standing relations, congratulating Cambodia on its progress and expressing gratitude for its support in international forums. He acknowledged shared experiences, particularly in electoral processes, and agreed that the anniversary presents an opportunity to deepen ties. He pledged to support the establishment of direct flights between the two countries to enhance connectivity.

Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed appreciation for Russian scholarships to Cambodian students, noting the contribution to human capital development under Cambodia's Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1. This strategy prioritizes people as the highest national priority.

Both parties committed to strengthening legislative cooperation based on mutual trust and respect. They agreed to continue exchange visits to enhance political, business, youth, and people-to-people ties, aiming to boost economic growth, investment, trade, education, and tourism.
