Samdech Techo Hun Sen Dismisses Importance of Revoked Thai Honorary Degree

Phnom penh: Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has affirmed that his intellect is rooted in the teachings of the Cambodian people and the educational institutions of Cambodia: not in any foreign accolades.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Cambodian Senate President made the statement in response to the revocation of his honorary degree by a university in Thailand.

'It is quite ridiculous. Today, I heard that a university in Thailand, whose name I can't even recall, held a vote to revoke my honorary degree,' he said on his social media platform this evening.

'Let me clarify: there is no need to revoke it. I already discarded that degree in the toilet back in 2008, when Thailand deployed its military to invade Cambodia's Preah Vihear Temple. Your degree has no value for me to keep,' he stated.

'I hold no pride whatsoever in a piece of paper bearing your name. Hun Sen's intellect was not born from your institution. Hun Sen's intellect comes from the teachings of the Cambodian people and the schools of Cambodia,' he underlined.
