Samdech Techo Hun Sen Rebukes Acting Thai Prime Minister’s Remarks

Phnom penh: Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, has issued a strong response to remarks made by the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand, who claimed that Samdech Techo "holds no value in negotiations."

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Techo Hun Sen took to social media this evening to directly address the comments from the Thai official. He recounted an incident that took place on June 15, 2025, where the Acting Prime Minister accompanied the former suspended Thai Prime Minister to meet him without a prior appointment. Hun Sen indicated that this meeting suggested his value in negotiations, contrary to the Thai Prime Minister's recent claims.

In his post, Hun Sen questioned the consistency of the Acting Prime Minister's statements, suggesting a lapse in memory or judgment. He emphasized his long-standing experience in governance, pointing out his tenure and leadership through more than ten Thai Prime Ministers, dating back to when the current Acting Prime Minister was associated with the Thai Red Army.

Hun Sen also clarified the roles in Cambodian state governance, stating that real negotiations should be conducted by Prime Minister Hun Manet, not by him as the Senate President. He criticized the Acting Prime Minister for advising the Thai public against listening to his social media posts, questioning whether there was fear of the influence those posts might carry.

Despite expressing reluctance in engaging with the Acting Prime Minister, Hun Sen felt compelled to communicate with the Thai public. He highlighted the responsibility of the Thai official in seeking advice and negotiation through a phone call with Ung Ing on June 15, 2025, while wishing him luck in maintaining his position as Acting Prime Minister.
