Samsung’s Lee visits ceramic parts plant in Philippines

Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Jae-yong has visited a plant of Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. in the Philippines and called for bolstering its competitiveness in ceramic components that are a key part of the electronics industry, company officials said Monday. Multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) are a primary component within electric devices that controls the stable flow of current within electric product circuits. Lee visited the MLCC production facility of Samsung Electro-Mechanics in the Philippines on Sunday, company officials said. Samsung Electro-Mechanics' Filipino plant has been producing MLCC and inductors for IT devices but is considering expanding its portfolio to high-value MLCC for automobiles, according to the officials. Market watchers expect the size of the global MLCC market to more than double to 9.5 trillion won (US$7.05 billion) by 2028 from 4 trillion won in 2023. Source: Yonhap News Agency
