Senate President Advocates for Increased Female Representation in Public Administration

Phnom Penh: Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, has reaffirmed his commitment to promoting greater participation of women in public administration. The statement was made this morning during a meeting at the January 7 Palace with a delegation from the Cambodian National Council for Women (CNCW), led by H.E. Mrs. Ing Kanthaphavi, Minister of Women's Affairs and Chairwoman of the CNCW.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson of the Senate, stated that Samdech Techo Hun Sen recommended that the CNCW propose to the Royal Government an increase in gender representation. This includes appointing at least two female deputy governors at the sub-national level and ensuring women make up 50 percent of new government recruits.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his vision for the next 20 to 30 years, hoping to see women play an even greater role in national development. Following the meeting, he shared on social media that he had handed over approximately two hectares of land, valued at around US$10 million, originally reserved for Bayon TV Station in the Chroy Changvar area. The land will now be used by the Ministry of Women's Affairs to build a dormitory for 500 female students, along with a health post.
