Senate President Urges Calm and Trust in Royal Government Amid Border Tensions

Phnom Penh: Cambodian Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has once again called on the public to remain calm and place their trust in the leadership of the Royal Government and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to resolve the recent border clash through negotiation rather than force.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in a special statement at the 3rd session of the 5th Legislature of the Senate, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also warned the public to be wary of fake news that could incite conflict between Cambodia and Thailand. He reiterated Cambodia's commitment to maintaining a border defined by peace, friendship, cooperation, and development with all neighbouring countries.

The Senate President clarified that the deployment of weapons and troops to the border was not intended for an attack on Thailand or to initiate war, but rather as a precautionary measure in case of further incidents. Referring to the May 28 border clash, Samdech Techo Hun Sen stated that the incident may have been triggered by an individual or group and was different in nature from the border incursion that occurred in 2008.

He emphasised Cambodia's desire to normalise the situation at the border and reaffirmed the country's readiness to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Senate President also called on the Cambodian people to stand behind the armed forces, demonstrating national unity in the defence of the country.
