Senate President Urges Establishment of Direct Flights Between Moscow and Cambodia

Phnom Penh: Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has formally requested Russia to initiate direct flights to Cambodia. This proposal aims to fortify bilateral relations, enhance people-to-people exchanges, and boost tourism between the two nations. The request was made during a meeting held with H.E. Igor Krasnov, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly received the visit and underscored the robust and expanding relationship between Cambodia and Russia, particularly in the legislative, executive, and judicial sectors. He expressed optimism that the visit would foster deeper cooperation in law enforcement and justice, as well as broader bilateral ties. The Senate President also extended congratulations to Russia on the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War, and thanked the Russian government for its support in human resource development.

Samdech Techo stressed the need for promoting economic collaboration, including enhancing mutual trade and investment. He invited H.E. Dmitry Medvedev, Chairman of the United Russia Party, to visit Cambodia, conveying the invitation through Prosecutor General Krasnov.

H.E. Igor Krasnov recalled the commendations from H.E. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, during a 2016 meeting with Samdech Techo Hun Sen, highlighting the almost 70-year-long Russian-Cambodian friendship. The Prosecutor General acknowledged Hun Sen's personal contribution to the development of this bilateral dialogue.

Krasnov also briefed Samdech Techo Hun Sen on his visit to Cambodia, which included discussions with senior leaders like H.E. Koeut Rith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice. The visit resulted in the signing of significant agreements in the legal sector and commitments to further cooperation in legal training and education. Regarding the direct flights proposal, Krasnov assured that he would communicate the request to the Russian leadership, expressing hope that Russian airlines would soon explore the feasibility of launching direct routes to Cambodia to promote travel and tourism.
