Senate President Urges Win-Win Approach for Cambodia and Thailand Relations

Phnom penh: Cambodian Senate President Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has emphasised the need for Cambodia and Thailand to adopt a win-win approach in addressing bilateral issues, for the mutual benefit of both nations.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen expressed his disappointment over Thailand's current stance, describing it as a "lose-lose" situation during a gathering with local council members in Preah Vihear province. He stressed the importance of mutual cooperation and trade between the neighboring countries, highlighting Cambodia's strong purchasing power despite its population of just 17 million.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia's firm position on the ongoing border checkpoint closures, stating that the party who closed the border unilaterally can also reopen it unilaterally, without the need for negotiation. He also reiterated Cambodia's long-standing goals to transform former battlefields into zones of development and turn borders with all neighbouring countries into frontiers of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.

He concluded by expressing Cambodia's readiness to normalise relations with Thailand through peaceful means, whether through bilateral mechanisms or international judicial frameworks.
