Senior Information Official Highlights Broadcasting’s Role in Mitigating Impact of Disasters

Siem reap: Leveraging advancements in technology through both traditional and modern broadcasting can significantly help save lives and mitigate the impacts of disasters. The note was highlighted by H.E. Kao Imran, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Information while he was presiding over the closing ceremony of an AIBD/ITU Regional Pre-Summit Workshop on the Role of Broadcasting in Effective Early Warning Dissemination, held on July 21 in Siem Reap provincial city as part of the 20th Asia Media Summit and related meetings.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Keo Imran continued that this is directly aligned with the country's national priorities for public safety and resilience. The ministry firmly supported the initiative, said the secretary of state, adding that this masterclass focuses on the indispensable role of broadcasting in delivering timely and accurate hazard alerts, enhancing community preparedness, and disaster response, which is incredibly important.

This discussion echoed the power of collaboration between governments, broadcasters, and international partners to build systems that are faster, smarter, and more resilient, he pointed out. He also appreciated speakers, moderates, and participants from national broadcasting, disaster management, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), academia, and the telecom sector for their active engagement and commitment to this vital topic.
