The Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway (KLK) concessionaire, ANIH Berhad, announced the reopening of KM66.1 of the highway, which was closed due to a sinkhole incident.
In its statement here today, ANIH Berhad said the route was reopened after comprehensive measures were taken to resolve the problem and appropriate assessment was carried out.
“ANIH Berhad remains committed to maintaining the highest safety standards and continuous monitoring of road conditions.
“The safety and well-being of all road users is our top priority at all times,” said the statement.
ANIH Berhad said all the relevant parties including the police, the fire and rescue department and Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL), which is the owner of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), made an immediate assessment and have taken prompt remedial action with the approval of the Malaysia Highway Board (LLM), after the incident occurred.
The swift repair work allowed the eastbound route to be reopened late Wednesday night, while the Kuala Lumpur-bound route was open to traffic at 10 am yesterday.
The sinkhole, measuring 9.5 metres wide, 10 metres long and 4.3 metres deep, occurred on Tuesday night, and is believed to have been caused by ECRL construction work in the area.
No casualties were reported, however, and MRL made an assurance that it would carry out a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident.
