Stung Treng Announces Inaugural Mekong Dolphin and Kayak Festival


Stung Treng: For the first time, Stung Treng, a province in Cambodia situated along the Mekong River, will host the Mekong dolphin and kayak boat paddling festival from May 30 to June 1.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the event aims to showcase the province’s tourism potential and promote public awareness and engagement in the conservation of the endangered Irrawaddy dolphin. In a public announcement, the Ministry of Tourism highlighted that the festival, marketed under the theme ‘Green Season’, aligns with the beginning of Cambodia’s rainy season, a period that revitalises nature and enriches the landscapes.

Organised by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with Stung Treng provincial authorities, the three-day festival will be held at the Preah Rumkel Ecotourism Community, Chheuteal Dolphin Pleasance in Preah Rumkel commune, Borei O’ Svay Sen Chey district. The event aims to enhance the quality of tourism products and services, attracting both local and international visitors.

The festival wil
l feature a variety of activities, including a blessing ceremony for the dolphins, kayak boat paddling, displays of local ecotourism products and cuisine, mass sports events such as charity marathons and boat racing, camping excursions, and trips to Borei O’ Svay Ecotourism Community and the Sopheakmit Waterfall.

The Ministry of Tourism invites all visitors to participate and embody the mottos ‘Tourism for All, All for Tourism’, ‘Tourism Flourishing in Peace’, and ‘Each Person is an Ambassador for Cambodia’s Tourism.’
