KUCHING, Johor took a chance by fielding a team comprising five newcomers and just two experienced players and their gamble paid off when they won the petanque women's team gold in the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) here today. Johor defeated Pahang 2-1 at the Sarawak State Petanque Court, leaving coach Ruhaizal Abu Amin singing their praises. He was pleased to see the team deliver the gold medal despite having to deal with the pressure of this being the last day of SUKMA 2024. 'This Johor team has five newcomers and two experienced players. Yet, we saw how they worked as a team to get the gold medal,' he said. Meanwhile, Kedah took home the bronze medal after defeating Perlis 2-1. In the men's category, Perak overcame Kelantan 2-1 for the men's team gold, with Terengganu outplaying Pahang 3-0 for bronze.
