Phnom penh: Cambodia’s highly anticipated Techo International Airport (TIA) is set to open its runways for operations tomorrow morning, marking a significant milestone in the country’s aviation infrastructure with a total investment of US$1.5 billion.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the inaugural flight will be carried out by Cambodia’s national flag carrier, Air Cambodia (K6 611), followed closely by a flight from Singapore Airlines (SQ 155). The opening ceremony will feature prominent officials, including H.E. Dr. Mao Havannall, Minister in Charge of the Secretariat of Civil Aviation, and H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, who will preside over the event.
Situated on more than 2,600 hectares of land spanning the Prek Sleng commune in Kandal Stung district of Kandal province and parts of Bati district, Takeo province, the new facility is approximately 20 kilometers from Phnom Penh. TIA is designed as a 4F international airport, allowing it to accommodate large long-haul aircraft such as the Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-800.
The official inauguration of TIA is scheduled for October 20, 2025, under the leadership of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The airport is expected to significantly enhance Cambodia’s aviation sector, tourism, and various economic sectors including trade and real estate, contributing to the overall economic growth of the region.
As TIA begins operations, Phnom Penh International Airport will cease its activities at midnight on September 8, 2025. All flights will be transferred to the new airport, with Korean Air set to be the final airline to depart from the existing facility, commonly referred to as Pochentong Airport, before its closure.
