Phnom penh: Thailand's Acting Minister of Defence has accepted Cambodia's proposal to include representatives from Malaysia, the United States of America, and the People's Republic of China as observers in the upcoming extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) meeting. 'It is my pleasure to confirm that Thailand accepts the proposal to include representatives from Malaysia, as the ASEAN Chair, the United States of America and the People's Republic of China, who have been providing assistance since July 28, 2025, as observers to the GBC meeting,' H.E. Gen. Natthaphon Narkphanit, Thai Acting Minister of Defence, wrote in an official letter dated Aug. 1, addressed to H.E. Gen. Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Cambodia.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the presence of the observers will be permitted on Aug. 7, 2025, the day of the extraordinary GBC meeting. The meeting will take place in Kuala Lumpur from Aug. 4 to 7, 2025. Both sides have expressed optimism that the upcoming discussions will be constructive and lead to meaningful outcomes.
The GBC meeting is one of the three key agreements reached between Cambodia and Thailand during their special meeting in Malaysia on July 28, 2025, aimed at resolving recent border clashes and restoring peace.
