A total of 90 Cambodian blue helmet troops of the Airport Engineering Force Unit 729 and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit 828 arrived home yesterday, after successfully completing their respective missions under the UN umbrella in the Republic of Mali.
H.E. Gen. Sem Sovanny, Director General of the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, Mines and ERW Clearance (NPMEC), presided over the homecoming ceremony at Phnom Penh International Airport.
On the occasion, H.E. Gen. Sem Sovanny extended a warm welcome home to the blue helmet troops and spoke highly of their tireless efforts in fulfilling their UN missions.
Since 2006, Cambodia has deployed in total 9,205 peacekeepers, including 728 women, to UN peacekeeping missions in nine countries, including Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Lebanon, Cyprus, Syria, Mali, and Yemen.
