UNIMAS’ PRIMA HEALTH CENTRE TO BEGIN OPERATIONS IN SEPTEMBER – NANTA

KOTA SAMARAHAN, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak's (UNIMAS) Prima Health Centre is expected to be operational in September. The health centre, under the first phase of the UNIMAS Teaching Hospital and Prima Health Centre Construction and Completion Project, will be the first teaching hospital in Sarawak with a total project cost of RM485.988 million and an area of ??27.37 acres (11.08 hectares). Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the centre will operate as a place of learning for UNIMAS medical students. "The centre is expected to be operational in September (this year) as a place for medical learning but I also understand it will be a health clinic where outpatients can come for treatment,' he said at the project's phase one handover ceremony here today. The handover was done to enable the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), as the project owner, and UNIMAS to place and test all the medical equipment needed before officially starting operations. Nanta said the centre will handle non-critic al medical cases, and will have X-ray facilities, a room to treat coughs, an eye clinic, a community clinic, laboratory as well as public examination room. He also said phase two of the project will involve the construction of the main building of the 300-bed UNIMAS Teaching Hospital, which will provide specialist and emergency services.
