Vice FM attends multilateral conference on Ukraine recovery in Berlin

Second Vice Foreign Minister Kang In-sun attended a multilateral conference in Germany earlier this week to discuss recovery efforts for the war-torn Ukraine, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday. Kang participated in the two-day Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024 in Berlin starting Tuesday (local time) to mobilize ongoing international support for the recovery, reconstruction, reform and modernization of Ukraine, which has been devastated by Russia's war, the ministry said in a press release. The forum, a follow-up to a similar gathering in London last year, brought together 2,000 participants from political, business and other sectors. During a speech Tuesday, Kang reiterated South Korea's steadfast support and solidarity with Ukraine, highlighting ongoing efforts to aid the war-torn country's recovery and reconstruction. Kang, in particular, emphasized the importance of public-private cooperation for an effective recovery, noting that South Korean companies are actively participating in areas of expert ise, such as infrastructure, logistics and energy. On Tuesday, Kang also attended the ministerial meeting of the Multi-agency Donor Coordination Platform for Ukraine, a multinational donor group that South Korea joined in February to contribute to the coordination of financial assistance and reconstruction plans for Ukraine. In addition, Kang held bilateral meetings with representatives from the United States, Germany and other countries on the sidelines of the conference, the ministry said. Under an initiative announced during President Yoon Suk Yeol's visit to Ukraine in July 2023, South Korea pledged to continue its non-lethal support for Ukraine in various forms, amounting to a total contribution of US$2.3 billion.
