Phnom penh: World Food Programme (WFP) Country Director Ms. Claire Anne Conan this morning commended the Royal Government of Cambodia, particularly the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS), for its exemplary cooperation with the WFP over the past five years. Ms. Conan expressed profound appreciation for MoEYS' effective execution of programmes designed to enhance student nutrition and health, curb school dropout rates, and boost school enrollment, especially in remote and rural regions.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, her remarks came during a farewell meeting with H.E. Academician Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, as she concluded her mission in Cambodia. In response, H.E. Academician Hang Chuon Naron extended his sincere gratitude to Ms. Conan for her dedicated service in Cambodia, acknowledging the WFP's crucial contributions to the nation's education and nutrition sectors.
He emphasised Cambodia's steadfast commitment to expanding and localising school feeding initiatives, aligning with the "National School Feeding Policy 2024-2035." This policy, adopted in 2024, underscores the Royal Government's investment in human capital and the future of Cambodian children. The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed MoEYS' continued dedication to fostering strong collaboration with all development partners to ensure the sustained effectiveness of these vital programmes.
H.E. Academician Hang Chuon Naron also thanked Ms. Conan and WFP's partners for the significant achievements realised over the past five years, which have substantially advanced Cambodia's education sector and human resource development. He specifically highlighted the impressive expansion of the school feeding programme nationwide, hailing it as a successful model for investing in the health and education of Cambodian children.
