Phnom penh: Air Cambodia has officially explained the design of its aircraft livery and cabin crew uniforms in response to comparisons with another regional airline. The airline emphasized that its branding is a result of intentional, culturally aware development, deeply embedded in Cambodia's rich heritage and national pride, as stated by H.E Sinn Chanserey Vutha, Secretary of State at the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the clarification comes as Air Cambodia Co., Ltd. gears up for a comprehensive rebranding from its current identity as Cambodia Angkor Air, set to take effect on January 1, 2025. The airline has confirmed that it will preserve its legacy logo and signature colors-Royal purple and gold-selected for their significant symbolism.
The airline explained that the color purple signifies dignity, serenity, and devotion, inspired by traditional Khmer aesthetics. The distinctive shade of purple used in Air Cambodia's branding is uniquely formulated from a balanced integration of the three colors present in Cambodia's national flag-blue, red, and white-in equal measure. This symbolic composition sets their design apart from any other carrier.
The airline further noted that the golden emblem and signature purple hue reflect a proud historical lineage, tracing back to 1956 under the national flag carrier's former name, 'Royal Air Cambodge.' Gold is emblematic of prosperity, pride, and Cambodia's enduring cultural legacy.
All elements of Air Cambodia's visual identity, including aircraft livery, uniforms, and branding, have been independently conceptualized and developed in accordance with international intellectual property and aviation trademark standards. The airline clarified that any perceived similarities with other airlines are purely coincidental and not indicative of imitation.
Air Cambodia asserted its commitment to a spirit of strategic partnership and mutual respect with fellow carriers across the region. The airline is dedicated to advancing regional aviation growth through collaboration and cultural exchange.
The airline encourages feedback from the public and the aviation community, advocating for exchanges through professional and appropriate channels. It emphasized that constructive dialogue enhances understanding, while speculative or viral commentary on social media may lead to misinterpretation and does not capture the full context of their brand heritage.
Air Cambodia remains committed to its distinct national identity and vows to continue upholding the highest standards of professionalism, cultural integrity, and regional cooperation in all aspects of its operations.
