Cambodia and Finland Aim to Elevate Cooperation to New Heights

Phnom penh: Cambodia and Finland have expressed their satisfaction with the current state of their bilateral relationship and are committed to advancing their cooperation to a higher level. This sentiment was shared during a recent meeting between H.E. Ms. Kristina Kuvaja Xanthopoulos, the Ambassador of Finland to Cambodia residing in Bangkok, and H.E. Thor Chetha, Cambodia's Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Ambassador Xanthopoulos led a delegation comprising representatives from Finnish companies such as Vaisala, Wartsila, and Nokia, to meet with Minister Chetha at the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) on July 24. The discussions centered around enhancing collaboration, particularly in areas related to water resources management.

During the meeting, Minister Chetha outlined MOWRAM's priorities and strategic plans, emphasizing the development of irrigation systems and large-scale water reservoirs. These initiatives aim to secure long-term water security and align with the Cambodian government's Pentagonal Strategy, phase I.

Minister Chetha expressed his appreciation for Finland's ongoing support in Cambodia's socio-economic development. He recognized Finland's role in promoting investments in national projects that contribute to Cambodia's economic growth and its aspirations of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income economy by 2050.

Ambassador Xanthopoulos commended the Royal Government of Cambodia on its achievements and development across various sectors. She highlighted the importance of the growing ties between the two nations and expressed enthusiasm for expanding mutual cooperation. Finland remains committed to strengthening and broadening bilateral collaboration for the mutual benefit of both countries and their citizens.
