Kuala lumpur: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly (NA) of the Kingdom of Cambodia, this morning held a bilateral meeting with Tan Sri Dato' (Dr.) Johari Bin Abdul, President of the 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the meeting, held on the sidelines of the AIPA-46 General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur, Samdech Khuon Sudary extended her sincere gratitude to Tan Sri Dato' (Dr.) Johari Bin Abdul for the warm hospitality and Malaysia's effective chairmanship of AIPA-46. She congratulated Malaysia on the successful organisation of the assembly, stressing its significance in fostering peace in the region, particularly in efforts to seek normalcy and reconciliation between Cambodia and Thailand.
Samdech Khuon Sudary highlighted Malaysia's important role in the history of Cambodia and its contribution to building an ASEAN Community of peace and prosperity by 2045. She also expressed appreciation for Malaysia's support of the Universal Peace Charter, describing it as a crucial achievement for ASEAN and humanity in restoring and strengthening peace in the region and beyond.
In response, Tan Sri Dato' (Dr.) Johari Bin Abdul thanked Cambodia for its active participation, which contributed to the success of the AIPA-46 General Assembly. He reaffirmed Malaysia's commitment to strengthening its roles in regional and international frameworks to safeguard peace, particularly between Cambodia and Thailand, within the ASEAN spirit of one united family.
Both leaders noted the rapid development of Cambodia-Malaysia ties over the past six decades in areas such as investment, economy, and tourism. Samdech Khuon Sudary highlighted the increasing number of Cambodians traveling to Malaysia, especially for tourism and medical services, as a reflection of the deepening people-to-people connections between the two countries.
