Phnom penh: The Kingdom of Wonder today broke ground on the Port Yves Palace Project, a landmark mixed-use development designed to elevate the nation's tourism profile on the island of Koh Rong.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Say Samal, who also serves as Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, and Head of the Royal Government Working Group for Preah Sihanouk province, presided over the ceremony for the luxury hotel and residential complex at Koh Toch Beach, Sangkat Koh Rong Sanlem, Koh Rong city. The project is positioned as a catalyst for sustainable and high-end tourism in Preah Sihanouk Province.
In her remarks, Project Chairwoman Ms. Siriwadhna Eva, CEO of M.B.I.S Development Co., Ltd., framed the project as a strategic investment aligned with Cambodia's broader economic ambitions. "Port Yves Palace is conceived as a multi-functional destination that will set a new standard for integrated leisure and hospitality," she stated.
The development will feature a 150-room luxury hotel with state-of-the-art amenities. Ms. Eva emphasised its role in supporting the Royal Government's goal for Cambodia to achieve upper-middle-income status by 2030 and high-income status by 2050 through balanced regional growth.
The project is expected to create approximately 350 permanent positions and employ 500 local workers during its construction phase. Ms. Eva also highlighted commitments to environmental sustainability, cultural exchange, and long-term economic benefits for the community, thanking the Royal Government for its supportive role.
Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal endorsed the project as a model for responsible development. He characterised it as a "strategic and positive investment" that aligns with the Royal Government's vision for the sustainable development of the province's coastal and island ecosystems, including the 32-island system surrounding Koh Rong.
The Deputy Prime Minister called for continued collaboration between investors and local authorities to ensure critical support services, including 24-hour security, efficient infrastructure, waste management, and reliable energy.
He further linked the project's success to the improvement of local livelihoods, in line with the strategic policies of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
DPM Say Samal reaffirmed the Royal Government's commitment to fostering a secure and favourable investment climate in Preah Sihanouk, which is rapidly emerging as a core hub for industry, tourism, and technology.
Concluding the ceremony, he congratulated Ms. Eva and the investment team, stating that Port Yves Palace would help establish Koh Rong as "a model for sustainable island development in Cambodia."
