Cambodia, Malaysia Parliamentary Leaders Call for Sustained Peace Efforts at AIPA-46

Kuala lumpur: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on Saturday paid a courtesy call on Hon. Senator Dato' Awang Bemee Bin Awang Ali Basah, President of the Senate of Malaysia, during the 46th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in Kuala Lumpur.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the meeting, Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed heartfelt thanks to Malaysia, the rotating chair of ASEAN, particularly to H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, for his crucial role in mediating the recent ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.

Speaking on behalf of the 17 million Cambodian people, Samdech noted that Malaysia's contribution to peace resonates deeply in the hearts of all Cambodians, adding that Putrajaya now stands as a symbol of peace and reconciliation between the two nations.

Samdech further underscored the importance of Malaysia's continued efforts to ensure effective implementation of the ceasefire, acknowledging the fragility of the agreement and stressing that sustained commitment is essential to prevent further escalation.

For his part, Hon. Senator Dato' Awang Bemee Bin Awang Ali Basah recognised that the ceasefire remains fragile and emphasised the importance of continued efforts to uphold it. Both sides expressed hope that Cambodia and Thailand will fully restore peace and normalise bilateral relations, thereby strengthening ASEAN unity as one family and contributing to lasting stability in the region.
