Cambodia, Malaysia Strengthen Digital Ties at AI Summit

Phnom penh: Cambodia's Minister of Post and Telecommunications, H.E. Chea Vandeth, participated in the ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Summit 2025 in Malaysia to bolster digital cooperation between the two nations, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) announced on Aug. 15. During the summit, the Minister engaged with Malaysian private companies and specialised agencies to advance collaboration in the digital sector.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, in a key development, Minister Vandeth presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cybersecurity cooperation between the MPTC and Axiata Group Berhad. The MoU, signed by H.E. Sam Sethserey, Director General of the MPTC's General Department of Information Communications Technology (ICT), and Mr. Vivek Sood, Axiata's Executive Director and Group CEO, aims to improve institutional capacity, facilitate information exchange, and promote the sharing of best practices in cybersecurity.

Minister Vandeth also joined a discussion with Malaysia's Minister of Digital, H.E. Gobind Singh Deo, and other regional leaders at the "China Mobile Southeast Asia Regional Cooperation Conference." The leaders discussed opportunities for strengthening the AI ecosystem in Malaysia and throughout the region.

During the summit, Minister Vandeth highlighted Cambodia's progress in its digital transformation, including the development of its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.

Additionally, Minister Vandeth visited the Malaysia Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI) and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to gain insights into their operations and learn from their experience in advancing Malaysia's digital economy.

The MPTC continues to expand its partnerships with international stakeholders and private sector partners, aligning with its commitment to developing Cambodia's digital infrastructure and human resources. The ministry is working to create an environment that supports emerging digital businesses, particularly through the establishment of digital parks to drive the country's socio-economic digital development.
