Cambodia Recognises AIPA’s Leadership, Regional Role, and Youth-Gender Platforms

Phnom penh: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from H.E. Ms. Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), on Tuesday afternoon at the National Assembly Palace.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Khuon Sudary praised the Secretary General's leadership and the dedication of the AIPA Secretariat, noting that under the current leadership, AIPA has gained renewed momentum in advancing regional parliamentary cooperation. She highlighted significant progress in promoting gender equality and inclusive dialogue, mentioning platforms such as the Women Parliamentarians of AIPA (WAIPA) and the Women Parliamentarians Leadership Forum (WPLF) as key to advancing women's leadership in the region.

Samdech Khuon Sudary also emphasized the importance of strengthening interpersonal ties and regional solidarity. She noted that recent initiatives have increased AIPA's visibility and credibility within and beyond Southeast Asia. She commended the AIPA Roadshow in Cambodia and the AIPA Young Parliamentarians Meeting for empowering future leaders and building a culture of peace through dialogue among young leaders.

The meeting also highlighted the growing interest in AIPA's work from outside the ASEAN region, with an increasing number of observer parliaments and partner institutions participating in AIPA-led platforms, including the 16th AIPA Caucus held in Phnom Penh. Samdech expressed appreciation for the Secretary General's support of the Universal Peace Charter, reaffirming Cambodia's commitment to parliamentary diplomacy and international cooperation.

H.E. Ms. Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman expressed gratitude to the Cambodian Parliament for its strong support and engagement. She acknowledged Cambodia's dynamic role in regional cooperation and contributions to advancing regional integration. The Secretary General emphasized the need for AIPA to remain adaptable and impactful, highlighting Cambodia's initiatives such as the AIPA Lynch Platform and the expansion of observer participation.

The meeting underscored the deepening partnership between the AIPA Secretariat and the National Assembly of Cambodia, reaffirming both sides' commitment to advancing parliamentary dialogue, regional peace, and mutual understanding.
