Phnom penh: H.E. Kittisethabindit Cheam Yeap, First Vice President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, hosted H.E. Phongxaysack Inthath, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, for a working discussion at the National Assembly Palace on July 16. The meeting focused on exchanging experiences in social protection systems and reinforcing the strong bilateral relationship between the two neighbouring nations.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Lao delegation's visit, described by Deputy Minister Inthath as an "official and friendly" exchange, aimed to foster collaboration and share insights into social welfare management. Members of the Cambodian-Lao Parliamentary Friendship Group and the National Assembly's 8th Commission also attended the talks.
On behalf of Samdech Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, H.E. Kittisethabindit Cheam Yeap extended a warm welcome to the Lao delegation, commending their initiative to exchange expertise with their Cambodian counterparts. He also acknowledged Oxfam Cambodia and Oxfam Laos for their role in facilitating the study visit.
The First Vice President of the National Assembly emphasised the enduring bond between Cambodia and Laos, characterising them as "good neighbours, close friends, brothers and sisters, and strategic partners" who consistently offer mutual support rooted in respect and trust.
H.E. Kittisethabindit Cheam Yeap also provided an overview of Cambodia's recent parliamentary activities, including the successful National Assembly and Senate Congress held on June 2-3, 2025. Chaired by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, the meeting addressed critical issues such as social protection systems, the informal economy, and the agricultural sector.
Furthermore, H.E. Kittisethabindit Cheam Yeap highlighted the functions of the 7th legislature of the National Assembly (2023-2028), noting the historic leadership of Samdech Khuon Sudary, the first woman to hold the position of President of the National Assembly in Cambodia.
