Kuala lumpur: Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Lee Jae Myung, President of the Republic of Korea, during the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, both leaders emphasized the strong and expanding friendship between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea, with diplomatic ties re-established in 1997 and elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2024. This partnership has led to significant collaboration across nearly all sectors.
The discussions focused on combating transnational crimes, particularly online scams, highlighting the successful cooperation between Cambodian and Korean authorities in recent years. This collaboration has produced effective results in addressing these issues.
Moving forward, Cambodia and the Republic of Korea will enhance their joint efforts to prevent, suppress, and combat crimes, especially those involving Korean nationals in Cambodia. This initiative aims to uphold security, public order, and social safety.
In November, a Cambodia-Republic of Korea Joint Task Force will be launched to improve coordination between the authorities of both countries. The task force will focus on crimes involving Korean nationals in Cambodia, including online scams.
Both parties also agreed to further publicize the positive outcomes of their collaborative efforts.
