Cambodia Seeks Enhanced Partnership with United Kingdom

Phnom Penh: Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, hosted a working lunch with H.E. Ms. Catherine West MP, Minister for Indo-Pacific of the United Kingdom's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The meeting focused on fostering cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, tourism, education, development, and demining.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Prak Sokhonn highlighted potential opportunities for further bilateral cooperation and expressed Cambodia's readiness to host the 3rd Bilateral Consultations in Phnom Penh this year. He expressed satisfaction with the increasing trade volume, which is projected to reach almost US$1 billion in 2024, and conveyed gratitude for Cambodia's inclusion as a beneficiary under the Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS).

Minister West, on her part, admired the construction of Techo International Airport, designed by British firm Foster + Partners, considering it a model of cooperation. H.E. Prak Sokhonn also informed H.E. Ms. Catherine West about Cambodia's efforts to combat cyber scams, highlighting the establishment of a new national commission led by Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister Hun Manet.

Both parties agreed on the necessity for deeper cooperation to address the pressing issue of transnational cybercrime, demonstrating a mutual commitment to tackling these challenges together.
