Cambodia Shares Ceasefire Progress as ASEAN Interim Observer Group Visits Conflict Zone

Phnom penh: H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, today shared details of an inspection visit by the ASEAN Interim Observer Group to the area affected by recent armed clashes between Cambodian and Thai forces in Oddar Meanchey province. Speaking at a press briefing this morning, she said, 'On July 31, 2025, Cambodia took another step toward implementing the ceasefire by facilitating an inspection visit by the ASEAN Interim Observer Group to the area impacted by the armed conflict.'

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the observer group, comprising representatives from Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, met with Lt. Gen. Pov Heng, Commander of Military Region 4, who briefed the delegation on the situation in the area following the ceasefire agreement as well as the outcomes of the July 29 meeting between commanders of Cambodia's Military Region 4 and Thailand's Army Region 2.

Following the meeting, Lt. Gen. Pov Heng accompanied the observers to the Thmar Daun area in Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province, where they inspected sites where MK-84 bombs had been dropped by Thai fighter jets. 'Cambodia stands ready to fully cooperate with the observation group led by Malaysia in monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire,' H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata emphasised.
