Phnom penh: The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Cambodia has pledged US$100,000 in humanitarian assistance to support civilians displaced by the recent armed clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border. The aid will benefit residents currently sheltering at the Phnom Thmar Kambor Pagoda refugee camp in Por Chas village, Beng commune, Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the announcement was made by H.E. Wang Wenbin, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, in a social media post this morning. The financial support aims to help improve the living conditions of the displaced people. Ambassador Wang expressed hope that the victims of the conflict can return to their homes as soon as possible.
Ambassador Wang Wenbin was part of a delegation of foreign ambassadors and representatives from 22 countries and four international organisations who conducted a field visit yesterday to areas affected by the recent border clashes and to the displacement camps in Oddar Meanchey province. The visit was led by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
During the visit, the delegates expressed their condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and extended their sympathy to those affected by the conflict. They also reaffirmed their support for the ceasefire agreement and urged both Cambodia and Thailand to honour the truce and work towards a lasting and peaceful resolution.
