Phnom penh: The Centrist Democrat International (IDC-CDI) has called for an immediate cease-fire in response to the recent deadly clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border, urging both nations to seek a peaceful resolution through dialogue and adherence to international law.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the IDC-CDI expressed grave concern over the ongoing armed conflict, particularly highlighting the significant humanitarian impact on both sides of the border. The organization appealed for restraint from further escalation and encouraged a resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
IDC-CDI outlined several actions for both parties to undertake, including the immediate cessation of hostilities, de-escalation efforts, and genuine negotiations to prevent a broader regional conflict that could threaten peace, stability, and development in the region. They also emphasized the importance of refraining from military actions that could endanger or destroy world heritage sites and other sacred cultural areas, urging respect for international instruments that protect cultural heritage.
The organization advocated for promoting peace and peaceful dispute resolutions through sincere dialogue and negotiations based on international law, emphasizing the common good of humanity. Additionally, IDC-CDI called for upholding international justice and respecting international law with the United Nations at its core, alongside adherence to ASEAN principles and other relevant regional frameworks that support territorial integrity, non-aggression, and peaceful coexistence.
IDC-CDI reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a vision of a global community characterized by peace, cooperation, friendship, harmony, and co-prosperity, all underpinned by respect for international law.
