Phnom penh: Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his hope that armed clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border will end under U.S. President Honorable Donald Trump's initiative. Samdech Thipadei shared on his social media platform early this morning that last night, he had a phone discussion with Honorable Donald Trump regarding the armed clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the conversation, the President of the United States expressed his desire not to see war or fighting that would lead to many deaths and injuries on both sides, including soldiers and civilians. For this reason, he has always strived to mediate and successfully ended conflicts in many countries around the world. Regarding the fighting between the Cambodian and Thai armed forces, Honorable President Donald Trump also wished to see an immediate ceasefire and peace between the two countries. In response, Samdech Thipadei made it clear to Honorable Pres ident Donald Trump that Cambodia agreed with the proposal for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire between the two armed forces. In fact, the Cambodian Prime Minister had previously expressed this position to H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and current rotating Chair of ASEAN, on 24 July 2025. After he had spoken with H.E. Phumtham Wechayachai, the acting Prime Minister of Thailand, Honorable President Donald Trump conveyed to him a positive piece of news that the Thai side also agreed to Honorable President's proposal for an immediate ceasefire. This is positive news for the soldiers and people of both countries. 'I hope that the Thai side will not reverse position as they did with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's coordination effort on July 24,' Samdech Thipadei said. With this positive news, Samdech Thipadei has assigned H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, to discuss with Honorable Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of Stat e, and for him to help coordinate with the Thai minister of foreign affairs to quickly implement the agreed principles with the goal of putting an end to the deaths and injuries of soldiers and civilians on both sides. Samdech Thipadei expressed his deep thanks to Honorable President Donald Trump for his initiative and mediation to find an immediate ceasefire and peace between Cambodia and Thailand. 'This excellent outcome will truly help protect the lives of many soldiers and civilians that could have been lost or injured in the fighting, and will help hundreds of thousands of refugees return to their villages to continue their daily lives in a safe and peaceful manner,' he stressed. Five Cambodian soldiers and eight civilians have been killed, while 21 other soldiers and 50 other civilians have been injured. Additionally, some 35,800 people in Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Pursat, and Banteay Meanchey provinces have been evacuated to safety due to the armed clashes between the two neighboring countries in itiated on July 24 by Thailand.
