Siem reap: Cambodia is set to engage in crucial discussions with international experts at the 20th Asia Media Summit, held in Siem Reap city from July 21 to 24, 2025. The primary focus of these discussions will be on collaborative efforts to combat fake news and enhance media diplomacy.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Kem Gunawadh, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Information, announced this morning in Siem Reap that these initiatives stem from a proposal by H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information. "We will sit down with specialists from various countries to find ways to cooperate in the fight against fake news, which is our first key point," he stated. This means leveraging international relations across all diplomatic and media sectors to collectively elevate Cambodia's prestige.
H.E. Gunawadh emphasised the need for media outlets to adapt to the digital age. He stated, "Beyond this, we will inform all media that we have entered a modern, digital, and artificial intelligence (AI) era. It is essential to keep pace with this new age; otherwise, our media must be inherently qualified."
The Secretary of State also highlighted that experts at the 20th Asia Media Summit will share their experiences with media outlets across seven workshop forums, all of which will include representatives from the Cambodian media sector. He affirmed the significance of these exchanges, noting that sharing real-world experiences from the current Asia-Pacific landscape will greatly contribute to the advancement of Cambodia's national media sector, encompassing both state and private broadcasting.
The first day of the 20th Asia Media Summit, held at Sokha Siem Reap Hotel, featured several important workshops. These included sessions on Artificial Intelligence in Media, Digital Newsroom practices, transforming media content creation through AI-powered tools and technologies, and the crucial role of media diplomacy in dispelling misinformation. These workshops underscored the vital importance of evolving with the digital age and advancements in artificial intelligence.
