Phnom penh: Cambodia has once again called on Thailand to fully respect and uphold the ceasefire, H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence, said in a statement released this evening.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the appeal followed an incident earlier today, Aug. 25, at around 2:20 p.m., when Thai military forces attempted to set up barbed wire in Chork Chey village, O' Bei Choan commune, O' Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, opposite Nong Chan village, Khok Sung district, Sa Kaeo province, Thailand. 'The action was strongly prevented by residents and local authorities in Chork Chey village, prompting the Thai forces to withdraw the barbed wire,' she underlined.
Cambodia urged the Thai side to fully abide by the ceasefire and, in particular, the spirit of the Agreed Minute of the Extraordinary Regional Border Committee (RBC) Meeting between Cambodia's 5th Military Region and Thailand's 1st Army Area, held on Aug. 22, 2025. That agreement reaffirmed the commitment to refrain from expanding the geographical scope of conflict and to avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
The statement further stressed that all disputes concerning border issues must be resolved through the Joint Border Committee (JBC) of the two countries, in line with the spirit of the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU 2000).
