Cambodian National Assembly Urges Thailand to Strictly Implement Ceasefire Agreement

Phnom penh: Before the 4th Session of the 7th Legislature commenced this morning, Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, invited Members of Parliament, representatives of the Royal Government, and officials to rise in solemn tribute to the heroic soldiers and members of the armed forces who courageously sacrificed their lives in defence of Cambodia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and motherland.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, on this occasion, Samdech Khuon Sudary reaffirmed the full support for the Royal Government's unwavering position in strictly, faithfully implementing the ceasefire agreement and pursuing a peaceful resolution to the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict through dialogue, friendship, and cooperation. She appealed to the Thai side to uphold its commitments with firmness and consistency, noting that such efforts would serve the core interests of both nations.

The National Assembly President expressed deep gratitude and high appreciation to the Royal Government for its relentless pursuit of peace, protection of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and adherence to diplomacy and international law. She stressed that peace, security, and the well-being of the people remain at the heart of Cambodia's foreign policy, highlighting the government's consistent efforts to resolve disputes with neighbouring countries peacefully and transform border areas into frontiers of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.

Samdech Khuon Sudary further commended the successful outcome of the special meeting held on July 28, 2025, in Putrajaya, Malaysia, between Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and H.E. Phumtham Wechayachai, Acting Prime Minister of Thailand. The meeting, initiated and co-organised by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in his capacity as ASEAN Chair, and supported by U.S. President Donald Trump, with active participation from the People's Republic of China, helped safeguard the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people. It also paved the way for the Aug. 7, 2025 meeting of the extraordinary General Border Committee, which reached consensus on 13 important points for further implementation.

Samdech Khuon Sudary called for the expeditious establishment of the ASEAN Observer Team, as well as the conclusion of Standard Operating Procedures and Terms of Reference, describing them as necessary foundations for restoring Cambodia-Thailand bilateral relations and ensuring long-term peace. She voiced her support for the Royal Government's sincere efforts in advancing the peace process.

The National Assembly President also expressed appreciation to international partners for their active role in promoting, monitoring, and ensuring the effectiveness of the ceasefire, particularly the Interim Observer Team led by Malaysian defence attach©, which has been providing immediate on-site observation.

At the same time, Samdech Khuon Sudary extended heartfelt thanks to friendly countries and institutions for providing urgent humanitarian assistance to hundreds of thousands of Cambodian refugees. She underlined that their generosity will remain forever engraved in the hearts of the Cambodian people.

Finally, Samdech Khuon Sudary paid profound tribute to the families of fallen heroes, the armed forces, and Cambodians both at home and abroad who have worked together as a Cambodian family with the spirit of national unity and patriotism. She also praised their spiritual and material support in defence of peace and national sovereignty, as well as their unified call for the release of 18 Cambodian soldiers illegally detained by Thai forces.

Samdech Khuon Sudary stressed that such actions significantly strengthen the people's national defence, protect Cambodia's sovereignty, and safeguard the nation's supreme interests.
