Cambodia Urges Thailand to Halt Border Activities Beyond Its Territory

Banteay meanchey: Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata has called on Thailand to immediately cease any unconstructive actions beyond its own territory. At a press briefing this afternoon, she highlighted concerns regarding recent activities by Thai forces at the Chork Chey checkpoint, urging for adherence to established agreements.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Thai paramilitary forces and border police officers inspected areas in front of the Chork Chey checkpoint on August 12-13, 2025. They reportedly set up barbed wire and placed tires in Chork Chey village, O' Bei Choan commune, O' Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, which falls within Cambodia's Military Region 5. This move has been perceived as a violation of the ceasefire agreement and the spirit of the consensus reached at the Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting.

H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata emphasized that Cambodia demands Thailand immediately and unconditionally halt all actions that breach the ceasefire. Specific provisions of the GBC Meeting, particularly Points 2 and 4, require both nations to maintain troop deployments as they were when the ceasefire took effect on July 28, 2025, with no further movements toward the other side's positions. The agreement also expressly prohibits any provocative actions that could heighten tensions between the two countries.

Moreover, Cambodia has called on Thailand to respect the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding, insisting on strict compliance with Article 5. This article mandates the maintenance of the status quo and prohibits any activities that could result in environmental changes in the border areas, further emphasizing the need for peaceful coexistence and mutual respect of territorial boundaries.
