Mekong-Lancang Security Centre Pledges to Enhance Partnership with Cambodia on Cyber Fraud

Phnom penh: The Mekong-Lancang Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Centre (LMLECC) has committed to bolstering its partnership with Cambodia to combat cyber fraud.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the pledge was made during a meeting this morning between Mr. Jiang Shui, the LMLECC's Deputy Secretary-General, and Senior Minister H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith, Head of the Secretariat of Cambodia Ad Hoc Commission for Combating Online Crimes.

Mr. Jiang expressed the centre's dedication to providing comprehensive support to Cambodia, including in capacity building, operations, technical assistance, and public outreach. He emphasised the LMLECC's role as a strategic partner in the fight against online deception.

For his part, H.E. Santepundit Sinarith highlighted the Royal Government of Cambodia's strong resolve to eliminate technology-related fraud. He cited the establishment of the above-mentioned Ad Hoc Commission as a key mechanism and detailed the successes of Cambodian authorities in investigating and suppressing cyber fraud.

The Senior Minister stressed the importance of international cooperation to address cyber fraud, which he described as a sophisticated transnational crime perpetrated by organised networks. He called for swift and effective collaboration, information exchange, and joint actions with partners.

Mr. Jiang commended Cambodia's proactive measures since the Ad Hoc Commission's formation and urged the country to publicise its achievements to showcase its commitment to tackling the issue.

Both parties acknowledged their past cooperation and discussed future strategies to elevate their partnership, aiming to create a model for international collaboration in combating cyber fraud and securing broader global recognition.
