Phnom penh: Cambodia has called on Thailand to cooperate in creating a conducive atmosphere for confidence-building, with the aim of fostering peaceful resolution between the two sides and restoring the situation to normal as soon as possible. The appeal was made by H.E. Nong Sakal, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, at a press briefing this morning. According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the establishment of an ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) as a monitoring mechanism to guarantee the ceasefire, while ensuring the effectiveness of the Interim Observer Team (IOT). 'We will continue to seek joint measures that provide mutual benefits, such as strengthening cooperation against cross-border crimes, including online scams, advancing humanitarian mine clearance, and promoting designated areas and initiatives that contribute to socio-economic development, public security, and the safety of all sides,' he underlined. The spokespe rson further stressed Cambodia's readiness to advance negotiations to reopen border crossings and to restore normal trade exchanges between the peoples of the two countries. At the same time, he reiterated Cambodia's determination to uphold its sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with maps defined by the historical treaties of 1904 and 1907, as well as the 2000 MoU, which have long been mutually recognised by both countries.
